Welcome To Denver City

Denver City is located in Yoakum County on the far west border of Texas with approximately 4000 of the friendliest residents around. From 1977 to 1980, Yoakum County was the number one oil producing county in the United States; the total value in oil and gas for this period was 889.9 million dollars.

Denver City is now the center of the world’s largest CO-2 project, with three plants having been built and operational in the mid-80’s by Shell, Amoco, and Arco Oil Companies.

Over the years, Denver City has developed into a thriving agricultural center, producing cotton, maize, peanuts, watermelons and vegetables. Located between larger cities such as Midland/Odessa and Lubbock, Denver City has convenient access to major highways which makes shipping in and out of the area uncomplicated and cost-effective.

Denver City is a city for families. The Denver City ISD has established itself as one of the most effective schools in the state for educating children and building character. This school district has three campuses, as well as an adult learning center, and an indoor pool facility.

Area universities and colleges include: Texas Tech University, Lubbock Christian University, University of Texas at the Permian Basin, Odessa College, South Plains College, College of the Southwest and New Mexico Junior College.

In April 1988, construction began on a major new electric power generating plant located 4 miles east of Denver City. The plant, Mustang Station, is fueled by natural gas. Mustang Station was developed by Denver City Energy Associates, a partnership of L.S. Power, LLC of New Jersey, and Amarillo-based Quixx Corporation, an affiliate of Southwestern Public Service Company.
