The Denver City Heritage Museum is a result of the Bicentennial Celebration in Denver City 1976. Communities all over the country joined together to celebrate 200 years of our nation's birth.

Hazel Akin was appointed the Bicentennial Chairman of Denver City. One result of this appointment was our ongoing Fourth of July celebration each year. The local community came together to have a substantial bar-b-que that Forth of July in 1976 at Stuffy Moorehead Park (the city park) with everyone participating in speakers, music, food.

Because of the bicentennial, we were asked to put money into a community project; this built a bike trail, benches downtown, ect. $544.54 was left from the community projects. That money was placed in savings and accumulated interest until 1985.  The last idea in the community project was a museum; when a place became available for the museum, the old elementary building, the money was taken out. The original diretors and intrest parites worked to get it started,and the museum was incorporated March 11, 1985. First, we had oen room and the n added two more when the library was remodeled; they moved out of temporary quarters in the Civic Center building.

We solicited membership -yearly or lifetime- and encouraged memorials. As we continued to grow we know we would need more room. In January 1991 the east wing of the Civic Center Building became available and we petitioned the city/county for that space. We were  lucky to get it and now we have five show rooms, office, store and quilting rooms.
